'Westside Liberals' of Pacific Palisades pay the ultimate price for supporting democrats

 

 

 

8/18/2025 -- Democrats who lived in upscale Pacific Palisades have found out the hard way that elections have consequences. These 'Westside Liberals' blindly went along with the Marxist Democrat party's ideology of higher taxes and reckless spending on everything from the high speed rail boondoggle, to the homeless industrial complex racket, to free illegal immigrant health care, and more. What did they get in return? In the normal world, police and fire are the very first line items of any city's budget. Instead, the Pacific Palisades fire department was essentially defunded. For all that they paid in taxes, they essentially got half a fire department and half a water reservoir (that was empty). Because of this negligence, insurance companies saw the writing on the wall and started canceling policies. Democrats deflected blame towards the insurance companies, casting them as greedy and evil. After getting dropped by carriers, some homeowners got stuck with California's woefully inadequate 'Fair Plan', while others were left with no insurance at all. Even those who were lucky enough to still be insured, they are discovering what it means to be woefully under-insured. And, it's only going to get worse because of the coming shortage of skilled labor and the rising cost of materials that come with the territory when the demand surge hits like a tsunami. For some, digging into their retirement fund won't be enough.

 

Other factors such as Governor Gavin Newsom's insane shutdown of refineries, which Palisadians inherently voted for in Newsom, is predicted to cause the price of gas to go up to $8.43 by the end of 2026, which would further inflate the cost of rebuilding. No, this wasn't some right-wing think tank's opinion -- This was a study out of the left-wing USC Marshall School of Business.

 

So now, many have lost their homes and can't afford to rebuild. But, if they sell their burnt out lot, they'll get 'burned' once again when they pay capital gains taxes. Oh yeah! They voted for that too! When Donald Trump wanted to lower their Federal taxes, democrats kicked and screamed in a fit of TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome).

 

Land in Pacific Palisades is said to be down around 40% in value. You can credit some of the cold feet of buyers to concerns about the 'mansion tax'. A home over 5 million dollars is taxed an extra 4%. A home over 10 million dollars is taxed at 5.5%. So, this gets baked into bids from contractors and families alike. In reality, a 4% tax is an 8% tax, and a 5.5% tax is an 11% tax. This is the price that a home owner pays when they live in a democrat super-majority city. There are ZERO Republicans serving on Los Angeles' city council. And, those less fortunate democrats of Los Angeles don't care about you rich democrats over in Pacific Palisades. The ballot measure passed. Some who might have been against it were likely tricked into voting for it. This mansion tax ballot measure was deceptively worded as the "Homelessness and Housing Solutions Tax", and that wording was lovingly approved by Los Angeles City Attorney, Hydee Feldstein Soto, a democrat, a woman, and a 'person of color' of course!

 

But hey! At least you Westside Liberals stuck it to those Republicans! At least you got a woman of color, who is also an admirer of Fidel Castro to become Mayor of Los Angeles. She's grossly incompetent and couldn't manage a 7-Eleven, but diversity is more important than merit. At least you're fighting the climate change bogeyman. And, paying to put homeless people in hotels is more important than protecting your home and everything inside from destruction.

Really?

If this disaster doesn't change voting habits, nothing will. Stockholm syndrome is real. We can do this all over again once the brush grows back and the city of Los Angeles still hasn't doubled the reservoir capacity and doubled fire personnel to fight the next fire.

Don't expect much to change.

Already, governor Newsom has allocated 101 million dollars to advance multifamily low-income housing development in Pacific Palisades and Altadena. 40% of such units must be used to house the homeless, mental patients, and people freshly released from jails. There goes the neighborhood!

Fortunately, Palisades residents have shown a small glimmer of hope.

One of the things that helped destroy Pacific Palisades was the overcrowding of homes. There are too many homes in close proximity to each other. Radiant heat caused even very fire-resistant homes (with concrete walls and metal roofs) to eventually spontaneously catch fire. The last thing you want to do is make housing even more dense in a very high fire severity zone. Yet in short order, governor Newsom was inexplicably pushing (under state Senate Bill 9) to turn single family homes into duplexes or even 4-unit lots. This perfectly reflects the democrats' ideology of gradually getting everyone to live in pill-box apartments and other multi-unit housing, and use public transportation or ride their bicycles. They hate single family homes and suburban living! LA Mayor Karen Bass is part of this Marxist camp. Only because of political pressure, did she finally block the effort. Much of her campaign donations come from Westside liberals, some of whom are finally coming to their senses.
